In 1990 I, Pete Russell (Owner
of Novation) became an AA rider in woods and desert racing. In our state, I had
good success, finishing in the top three if not winning a majority of the races
I entered. Then in 1995 I got my pro license for motocross and supercross. Although
motocross was my favorite of all, I lacked training and the finances needed to
pursue it at a competitive level. I started running the WORKS races, with a best
finish of 4th overall. In 2002 I started an injury streak. I retired
my racing due to a torn ankle tendon, broken femur and broken wrist. Riding at
this level has given me a great insight on to how suspension should perform and
the capability of understanding what it needs for virtually all riders. Growing
up in a motorcycle shop I had the benefit of riding and tuning all kinds of bikes,
with all kinds of suspension, and found myself wondering, is this as good as it
gets. I would often ride with the expectation that my body would pay for the lack
of quality suspension.
When I made the move up from 50cc
to 80cc to the 125cc bikes, I realized how much better the suspension worked on
the bigger bikes. I then asked my dad (who has owned a motorcycle shop for over
35 years now) “why is there was so much difference in how suspension operates
from small bikes to big?”.
He told me how the cost
of production for little parts is almost identical to big parts. No one wants
to buy a little bike for as much as big one, so they have to cut corners.
I also learned there was a pattern of standard bikes that kept even the bigger
bikes from being made with super high quality parts, COST. At this time I began
wondering what’s it going to take to give all bikes great suspension.
With this in mind that people are willing to pay for quality and safety, I felt
there has to be a greater level to the whole field, not just to modify the existing
products but change the whole system. I want super performance enhancements for
every bike. You are the ones who will receive just that.
